Amazon MGM Studios will release "Madden" globally on Prime Video on Nov. 18, with a limited theatrical engagement starting Nov. 11. The biographical drama stars Nicolas Cage as John Madden, the Hall of Fame coach and broadcaster who died in 2021.

David O. Russell, an Oscar nominee, directed the feature from a script he wrote with original screenwriter Cambron Clark. The story covers Madden's time leading the Oakland Raiders to a Super Bowl victory in the 1970s, his departure from coaching because of health issues, and his work with Electronic Arts on its video game franchise. Christian Bale plays Raiders owner Al Davis.

Kathryn Hahn appears as Madden's wife, Virginia, and Sienna Miller plays Carol Davis. John Mulaney plays EA founder Trip Hawkins, and Shane Gillis appears in a supporting role. Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch produced with Russell, Jonathan Shukat, and Matthew Budman.

Cage discussed portraying Madden in a video featurette released on social media. "Accepting the role to play this larger-than-life legend has been a highlight for me. John Madden didn't just coach football, he changed the game," Cage said. He added, "His football brilliance was unmatched. As a coach, John was a savant, seeing the field in ways no one else could. As a broadcaster, his brilliance evolved."

The trailer for the film is available from Amazon MGM Studios.
