HBO Max has officially renewed Stuart Fails to Save the Universe for a second season. The decision gives the series an early continuation after its first run concluded this year. Creator Chuck Lorre confirmed that the upcoming season will consist of another 10 episodes.
The series serves as a spinoff to The Big Bang Theory. It follows Stuart Bloom, played by Kevin Sussman, after he triggers a multiverse crisis using a device built by Sheldon Cooper and Leonard Hofstadter. Sussman is joined by Lauren Lapkus as Denise, Brian Posehn as Bert Kibbler, and John Ross Bowie as Barry Kripke. The group works to fix the damage across alternate realities.
The renewal coincides with the show’s continued use of actors from the original sitcom. Kaley Cuoco and Mayim Bialik have already appeared as alternate versions of their previous characters. The creators noted that guest spots depend on story needs and actor schedules.
Amy Gravitt, executive vice president of HBO Programming, stated that the network is pleased with how the show connected with viewers. She described the series as hilarious and noted its appeal to both longtime fans and new audiences. Channing Dungey, chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group, called the series a completely original take on a beloved franchise.
HBO Max has not yet released a premiere date, a full production schedule, or details on filming for the new season. The network expects to announce these specifics in the coming months.
