Roger Howarth and Beth Maitland won the top acting prizes at the 53rd annual Daytime Emmys on Friday night in Los Angeles.

Howarth took home the award for outstanding supporting actor. He currently portrays Matt Clark on the CBS soap opera 'The Young and the Restless.' His first Emmy win came in 1994 for his role as Todd Manning on 'One Life to Live.'

Maitland received the outstanding supporting actress honor. She has played Traci Abbott on 'The Young and the Restless' since 1982. That year also marked her first victory in the category. She thanked her fellow nominees during her acceptance speech.

Maitland called the moment meaningful after waiting decades. She noted that daytime television offers a few minutes of relief in a chaotic world. The ceremony also recognized new talent and long-standing hosts.

Ambyr Michelle won the award for emerging talent in a daytime drama for her work on 'Beyond the Gates.' Sherri Shepherd took the prize for daytime talk series host for her show 'Sherri,' which concluded its final season in May. The event was held at the Hollywood Palladium.

The ceremony was streamed live for the second consecutive year. Tracee Ellis Ross also won an award for her travel show 'Solo Traveling with Tracee Ellis Ross' on Roku. She thanked the countries of Morocco, Mexico, and Spain for their role in the production.
