Four people were hurt when a shooting took place at Madison Senior High School on Sunday night. The incident occurred near 9:50 p.m. during a youth football championship game that was not organized by the school.

One victim died at the scene. Three other victims were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis is leading the investigation. Lieutenant Andrew Pierson, the squad’s public information officer, asked the public for help. "You do not have to have the whole story, a single photo, a short video, or one detail you think is insignificant may be exactly what moves this investigation forward," Pierson said.

The Madison School District canceled classes for Monday. School is scheduled to resume on Wednesday. A district statement noted that the violence affects the entire school community despite the game not being sponsored by the district.

Counseling and support services will be available to students and staff. People with information can call the command post at 618-709-7750 or CrimeStoppers at 866-371-8477.
