The Kansas City Chiefs have signed Justin Tucker to their practice squad. The move was first reported by The Kansas City Star and confirmed by CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz. Tucker joins the team as starting kicker Harrison Butker works through a recent string of missed opportunities.

Tucker, 36, is a seven-time Pro Bowler and an eight-time All-Pro selection. He spent his career with the Baltimore Ravens, where he last played on January 19, 2025. His career stats include 417 made field goals, which ranks 14th in NFL history. He holds the league record for the fastest kicker to reach 300 career field goals and the fastest to score 1,000 points. His 66-yard field goal stood as the longest in league history until Jacksonville Jaguars kicker Cam Little surpassed it with kicks of 67 and 68 yards.

The signing follows a difficult stretch for Butker. The Chiefs' current kicker has missed six kicks this season, including one extra point. In a 20-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 7, Butker failed to convert a 58-yard field goal at the end of the first half and a 45-yard attempt in the fourth quarter. Despite these misses, Butker has converted nine of his 10 attempts from inside 50 yards.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid acknowledged Butker's inconsistency after the Seattle game. "He's been one of the most consistent kickers in football," Reid said. "He's off a bit, so gotta fix it."

Kansas City held workouts for three kickers this week before selecting Tucker. The team chose Tucker over former Los Angeles Rams kicker Harrison Mevis. Tucker has been out of the league since May 2025, when the Ravens released him. He was previously suspended for the first 10 games of the 2025 season for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy. In January 2025, The Baltimore Banner reported that six women accused Tucker of sexually inappropriate misconduct at Baltimore-area spas. That number later increased to 16 accusers across eight locations. Accusations included exposing his erect genitals and touching therapists inappropriately.

Tucker worked out for several teams during the 2025 offseason, including the Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans Saints, and New York Jets, but did not sign a contract. His career field goal conversion rate stands at 89.1%. Butker remains the Chiefs' primary kicker for the time being, but the addition of Tucker to the practice squad signals a change in depth and competition.
