Burlington and the surrounding North Country are set for unusually warm conditions Wednesday as temperatures climb into the low and mid 70s. The weather service forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and a persistent south breeze that will drive heat levels higher than typical for early November.
Meteorologists expect record high temperatures to be broken in most locations across the region. In Burlington, the high is forecast to reach 73 degrees. The combination of sunshine and dry air will create localized fire weather concerns, particularly in the Champlain Valley and along the northern slopes of the Adirondacks.
Wind speeds will contribute to the dry conditions, with gusts reaching 23 miles per hour during the day. Humidity levels are expected to drop, increasing the risk for small fires in exposed areas. The low temperature for Wednesday night will hold near 57 degrees, with partly cloudy skies and gusts up to 28 miles per hour.
The warmth will end as a cold front moves through late Thursday. Partly sunny skies and gusts up to 28 miles per hour will precede a line of showers arriving in the evening. Rainfall amounts are generally expected to be light, with the low temperature falling to 51 degrees.
Temperatures will continue to decline Friday and Saturday as scattered drizzle becomes possible. Friday will bring a high of 62 degrees, while Saturday will cool to 52 degrees with a low of 41 degrees. Skies will remain partly cloudy through the weekend.
By Sunday, the chance for scattered drizzle persists with a high near 50 degrees. Monday marks the arrival of mixed precipitation, with rain showers in the valleys potentially turning to snow in the mountains. Temperatures will drop to around 35 degrees overnight before recovering slightly to 51 degrees on Tuesday.
