Mike Boynton is set to lead Michigan basketball as head coach for the next two seasons. The school signed him to a contract following the departure of Dusty May, who took a head coaching position with the Dallas Mavericks after the Wolverines won the NCAA national championship in 2026.

Boynton previously served as an assistant coach on May's staff for two years. Michigan had initially named him interim head coach before finalizing the two-year agreement. This transition places Boynton in charge of a team that is defending a national title.

Boynton spent seven seasons as head coach at Oklahoma State. He compiled a record of 119 wins and 109 losses during that tenure. The program reached the NCAA Tournament once under his leadership. He was dismissed after Oklahoma State finished the 2023-24 season with a 12-20 record.

The move places Boynton at the center of a busy offseason in college basketball. Several other major programs made coaching changes during this period. These shifts affected both men's and women's teams across the country.

Casey Alexander became the new head coach at Kansas State. He replaced Jerome Tang, who was fired after three seasons that produced a 45-47 record. Alexander owns a career record of 303-180. He has coached at Stetson, Lipscomb, and Belmont.

Will Wade returned to LSU for a second stint. The program had fired him in 2022 after the NCAA cited him for recruiting violations. Matt McMahon succeeded Wade but was dismissed after four seasons with a 60-70 record. Wade coached McNeese and North Carolina State to NCAA Tournament appearances while away from LSU.

North Carolina hired Michael Malone, an NBA coach with no prior college head coaching experience. Malone went 510-394 in the NBA from 2013 to 2025. He won a championship with the Denver Nuggets in 2023. He replaced Hubert Davis, who led the Tar Heels to the 2022 championship game.

North Carolina State named Justin Gainey as its first-time head coach. Gainey was a former player for the Wolfpack. He recently served on Rick Barnes' staff at Tennessee. He also held assistant roles at Marquette, Arizona, Appalachian State, and Elon.

Syracuse hired Gerry McNamara to replace Adrian Autry. McNamara holds the school record for three-point baskets and minutes played. He led Siena to a 23-12 record and an NCAA appearance last season. Autry was fired after three seasons with a 49-48 record and no NCAA Tournament bids.

Pauline Love returned to Alabama as head coach of the women's team. She had served as an assistant there in 2024-25. Kristy Curry, who preceded Love, left for South Florida after 13 seasons. Love spent the most recent season as an assistant at Oklahoma.

Tammi Reiss became the new head coach at her alma mater, succeeding Kelly Rae Finley. Reiss went 138-73 in seven years at Rhode Island. Finley was fired after five seasons with a 93-75 record.

Ayla Guzzardo was hired at Georgia after leading McNeese to a school-record 29 wins last season. Katie Abrahamson-Henderson mutually parted ways with the program after four seasons with a 69-59 record. Carla Berube joined Northwestern after six years at Princeton, where she reached the NCAA Tournament in her last five seasons. Joe McKeown retired after 18 seasons at Northwestern with a 276-279 record. Aaron Rousell took over at Virginia after seven seasons at Richmond. He replaced Amaka Agugua-Hamilton, who was fired in April. Cooley became head coach at Georgetown after three seasons there. He previously posted a 242-153 record in 12 seasons at Providence. South Carolina saw a drop in performance after earning an NCAA bid in 2023-24, going 25-39 in the following two seasons. Tennessee underwent a roster overhaul after eight straight losses and a first-round exit in the NCAA Tournament. Texas A&M earned an NCAA bid in only one of the past four years and went 24-32 in the last two seasons.
