A new immersive concert experience called Stage will premiere in Berlin on February 14, 2027. The production marks a return to the stage for David Bowie’s performances from his 1978 tour. It debuts at Uber Arena during the 77th Berlin International Film Festival.
The project developed in collaboration with the David Bowie Estate features previously unseen footage. The material comes from the Isolar II World Tour. Filmmaker Brett Morgen discovered the archives while working on his 2022 documentary Moonage Daydream. The footage captures Bowie during the defining period of his career associated with the Berlin era.
Stage uses modern audiovisual technology to restore and present the old recordings. The production combines large screens, transparent LED displays, and surround sound. Theatrical lighting creates an immersive performance environment for the audience.
The producers aim to bring listeners closer to the original live performances. They will not use a hologram of the singer. The production also avoids recreating Bowie through artificial intelligence.
Following its debut in Berlin, the experience is expected to travel internationally. The tour offers longtime fans and new listeners a chance to hear the music from that specific period. The show relies on the restored archival material rather than new recordings.
Bowie performed these songs during a influential era in his career. The 1978 tour took place across multiple continents. The Stage project allows audiences to see those specific performances in a new format. The premiere date coincides with the major film festival in the German capital.
