Tate McRae has released her first new music of 2026 with the single 'Housewife.' The song arrives ahead of her forthcoming fourth studio album and follows her 2025 record, So Close to What. That previous album featured the singles 'It's OK I'm OK,' '2 Hands,' 'Sports Car,' and 'Revolving Door.'
The new track focuses on independence, ambition, and the expectations placed on women. McRae described the song as being about a woman who cannot be contained. She shared this description during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
McRae planted an early clue about the release during her August performance at Lollapalooza in Chicago. The title of the song appeared at the beginning of her set that evening. The full music video for the track was filmed in the south of France.
Pierre-Ange Carlotti directed the video, which features McRae in a mansion and on a yacht. The production combines choreography with scenes that contrast an extravagant lifestyle with complex emotions. Sergio Reis handled the choreography. His previous credits include work with Madonna, Miley Cyrus, Troye Sivan, and Charli XCX.
The release marks a return for the Canadian pop singer after her busy 2025 cycle. The single is available now alongside the accompanying video.
