Maggie Goodlander declared victory Tuesday night in the race for New Hampshire’s 2nd Congressional District, securing a second term against Republican challenger Lily Tang Williams.
The margin of victory is substantial. With more than 50 percent of the vote counted, Goodlander held a lead of nearly 22 percentage points over Tang Williams.
Goodlander addressed her supporters in Concord, framing the election as a matter of public responsibility. She told the crowd that government is a trust and that she intends to work for every constituent, regardless of how they voted. "I’m going to carry your trust with me every single day," she said.
The winner brings a background in national security to the role. Goodlander served as an intelligence officer in the U.S. Navy reserve. She cited the new housing legislation she helped pass as a key achievement of her first term, describing it as the most significant in a generation.
She outlined her priorities for the coming two years, including an anti-corruption agenda. She also stated that members of Congress should vote on the Iran war every day it continues.
Tang Williams, who fled communist China to start a new life in the United States, campaigned on economic concerns. She acknowledged rising gas prices and questioned the ongoing war while supporting administration policies on border security.
