Republican Anthony Constantino ordered a television news crew to exit his election-night gathering in Amsterdam, New York, on Tuesday. The incident occurred while Constantino, a candidate for the 21st Congressional District, addressed supporters. He was leading his Democratic opponent, Blake Gendebien, in the race at that time.

The campaign had previously invited local media to the event. A team from 7 News, which covers the region, attended the party. In a pre-event email, Constantino’s staff confirmed their awareness of the crew's presence and wrote, 'Looking forward to seeing you all.'

During a live segment for the 11 p.m. newscast, Constantino spoke for 15 to 16 minutes. He thanked President Donald Trump 'for having my back.' He also acknowledged former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani and political strategist Roger Stone. While praising allies, Constantino criticized 'the evil news media' in general.

After the live coverage ended, Constantino singled out 7 News reporter Garrett Domblewski. He called Domblewski and 7 News anchor Jeff Cole 'a**holes.' He also directed the same phrase at a reporter from another organization. Constantino then told Domblewski to leave the venue.

Security guards escorted Domblewski out of the building. As he was led outside, Constantino and the audience chanted, 'Kick him out. Kick him out.' They continued with the chant, 'F**k the evil media.' Domblewski reported live from the parking lot before ending the broadcast when another person appeared ready to send him away.

Domblewski said he did not know what caused Constantino to target him. He noted that he had conducted a cordial interview with Constantino earlier in the evening. Portions of that interview aired on the 10 p.m. newscast. The Amsterdam venue is about a three-hour drive from Watertown.

Constantino continued his speech after the crew departed. Other individuals who took the stage also used inappropriate language. The 7 News team left the location to cover other regional election results.
