Billy Corgan said he continues to support Marilyn Manson despite ongoing allegations of sexual abuse and domestic violence against the musician. Corgan made the statement on a recent episode of the Popcast podcast.
The two musicians have known each other for nearly 30 years. Corgan explained that his Christian beliefs influence how he maintains personal relationships during difficult times. He stated that he does not personally believe Manson is guilty of the accusations.
The men are connected by family as well as music. Manson’s wife, Lindsay Usich, is the twin sister of James Iha, the guitarist for the Smashing Pumpkins. Corgan noted that supporting a friend does not mean avoiding criticism or ignoring serious claims.
Los Angeles prosecutors announced in January 2025 that they would not pursue criminal charges against Manson. That decision followed a four-year investigation. Officials cited expired legal deadlines for domestic violence cases and insufficient evidence to prove sexual assault beyond a reasonable doubt. Manson, whose legal name is Brian Warner, has denied the allegations.
Corgan maintained that individuals found guilty of abuse should face legal consequences. He said he prefers to evaluate personal relationships on a case-by-case basis rather than applying a uniform standard.
