Bath City defeated Poole Town 1-0 on Tuesday, extending their winning streak in the league to four matches. The victory also snapped Poole’s unbeaten run, marking the first league loss for the Dolphins since August. The margin of victory was thin, but the result placed Bath City in a favorable position in the standings.
Harry Parsons scored the only goal of the match in the 18th minute. He received the ball at the edge of the penalty area after Poole failed to clear a free-kick. Parsons controlled the ball under pressure and shot into the top corner of the net. Prior to that, Enzio Boldewijn won the ball in the final third, leading to a curled effort by Parsons that went around the post.
Manager Scott Bartlett acknowledged that his team was not technically dominant. He noted that the players were loose and passive in possession at times. However, he praised the squad for maintaining a high level of defensive organization. Bartlett stated that the team rode through waves of good possession from Poole and kept the ball out of their own net. He described the performance as thoroughly professional despite the lack of flair in attack.
Poole Town applied sustained pressure for the majority of the second half. Jake Lawrence posed a constant threat with his runs, though he finished poorly, skewing a header from a promising position. Ryan Campbell missed a critical chance, heading the ball wide from six yards out and dead center of goal. Billy Lowes also drew saves from City keeper Harvey Wiles-Richards with long-range efforts.
City’s defensive line held firm as Poole attempted to break them down. Brandon Goodship crashed a shot against a defender after good interplay from Charlie Davis and Selim Saied. Owen Dore volleyed wide from a corner, while Lawrence sent a powerful effort past the post. The Dolphins’ persistence forced Wiles-Richards into several saves, but he remained secure throughout the period.
Bath City created a late opportunity to add a second goal. Alex Fisher flicked the ball on to Reuben Reid, who swiveled and rifled the shot against the legs of Poole keeper Adam Parkes. Boldewijn also drove a shot wide for the hosts. The Romans managed the final twenty minutes effectively, keeping Poole at arm’s length to secure the three points.
Bartlett noted that the substitutions made during the match had a significant impact on the outcome. He said the new players helped gain possession and contribute to the result. While he admitted the team could play better, he emphasized that they defended brilliantly and looked organized. The result confirms that both teams are strong contenders this season, with Poole Town expected to remain near the top of the table.
