Police detained a man on Monday afternoon after neighbors stopped him from dragging a woman into a truck in the Diamond Head Gold Coast. The suspect was picked up a few hours after the incident, following a report of a naked man running through a nearby neighborhood.

The attempt began around noon at the Kainalu condominiums on Coconut Avenue. Surveillance footage shows a truck parked outside the complex before a man enters the garage. He confronts two women and chases one of them. Police said the suspect elbowed a 77-year-old resident in the face before picking up her 24-year-old friend.

The 77-year-old woman, who asked not to be identified, described the man as looking like a monster with hatred in his eyes. “He shoved me away from my friend and he picked her up,” she said. She yelled for help while her friend told the man not to do this.

Beverly Louis, a neighbor, watched the man bear-hug the woman and drag her toward the back of his truck. “I just started screaming, ‘Drop her! Drop her! Drop her!’” Louis said. She described the victim as terrified and screaming for her life.

Mike Finkelstein, another witness, also shouted at the man. “Let her go. I’ve called the police. I’m coming down there after you,” Finkelstein said. Several other residents joined in, helping the 24-year-old break free from the grip of the suspect.

The man got into his truck and sped off after the neighbors intervened. Police located him a few hours later. They said a suspicious man matching his description was seen running naked in a nearby neighborhood. The 77-year-old resident said she and her friend are still having nightmares, and the neighborhood remains on edge.
