TSA officers removed a set of claw-like blades from a passenger’s carry-on bag at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
Screening agents identified the prohibited items during an X-ray review this week. Officer Douglas Linn noticed three distinct blades in the image. He said the shape looked like a mix of Wolverine claws and Freddy Krueger blades. Linn has worked for the agency for two years. He said he had never seen such an item before.
Property search officer Dennis Oishi opened the bag to inspect the contents. He confirmed the blades were inside. Oishi has seven years of experience with TSA. He described the item as one of the most unusual objects he has encountered in his career.
The passenger realized he had packed the items after Oishi pulled them out. The man voluntarily abandoned the blades at the checkpoint. Supervisory officer Ann Rhoades said the passenger initially said he was not sure if anything sharp was in the bag. Rhoades noted that the answer became clear once the items were removed.
The incident occurred during routine checkpoint operations. The agency stated that some accessories are better suited for movie screens than airplane cabins. The passenger left the airport without the claw blades.
