Noah Wyle, the Emmy-winning actor, has been selected as People magazine’s 2026 Sexiest Man Alive. The publication announced the choice on Tuesday, Oct. 27. Wyle is 55 years old.

The recognition follows his acclaimed work in HBO’s medical drama “The Pitt.” Wyle said he initially doubted the news was real. “I thought that sounded like a prank, just not in a million years did I think that this would be an honor bestowed on me,” he told People.

Wyle credited his wife, Sara Wells, with helping him appreciate the distinction. He noted that her belief in him as a husband and father was a key part of his response to the honor.

Wyle first gained wide recognition as Dr. John Carter on NBC’s “ER.” That series premiered in 1994 and ended in 2009. He later returned to the medical genre as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch in “The Pitt.” His performance earned him back-to-back Emmy awards for outstanding lead actor in a drama series in 2025 and 2026.

The announcement links Wyle to his former “ER” co-star George Clooney, who has won the People title twice. Wyle joked that Clooney would likely feel like a proud father figure. “I think he’ll be amused and feel, hopefully, like a proud papa, that I’ve come of gray-haired age,” Wyle said.

The third season of “The Pitt” is scheduled to premiere in January 2027. Wyle succeeds Jonathan Bailey, the “Wicked” star who held the title in 2025. The annual distinction, which began in 1985, is one of People’s most recognized celebrity features.
